The Old Guard 2 (2025)
The Old Guard 2 is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Victoria Mahoney, from a screenplay by Greg Rucka, based on his Image Comics series. Serving as a sequel to the 2020 film, it continues the story of immortal mercenaries led by Charlize Theron’s Andromache of Scythia.

Production Details
Development
The sequel was greenlit by Netflix in January 2021 following the success of the first film, which was viewed by 78 million households in its first four weeks. Original director Gina Prince-Bythewood passed the reins to Victoria Mahoney, making her the first woman to direct a Star Wars film (The Rise of Skywalker second unit).
Filming
Principal photography began June 2022 at Cinecittà Studios in Rome, Italy. Production faced delays when a fire broke out on August 2, 2022, destroying part of the Renaissance Florence set. Filming later moved to the UK before wrapping in September 2022.
Post-Production
Editing by Matthew Schmidt (Deadpool 2, The Hunger Games) was temporarily halted in 2024 due to Netflix regime changes, but completed shortly after. Additional photography is scheduled for October 2024 in British Columbia.
Music
Composers Max Aruj and Ruth Barrett replace Volker Bertelmann and Dustin O’Halloran from the first film. The score will blend orchestral and electronic elements to match the film’s ancient-modern duality.
Release
The Old Guard 2 will premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 2, 2025. Industry analysts predict a potential limited theatrical run in select markets.
